For those with a sweet tooth, try our national dessert, Pavlova, a large soft centered meringue topped with fresh whipped cream and fresh fruit, usually berries or Kiwifruit. New Zealand wines have achieved an international reputation for excellence, particularly our Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and more recently our reds. Whether you are on a budget or an avid wine connoisseur looking to spend a few dollars, you will be spoilt for choice. Wine is readily available to those 18 years or older from restaurants with your meal, wineries, retail liquor outlets, and supermarkets across the country. For a full list of wineries in New Zealand, visit Wines of New Zealand. Most wineries offer tours and tastings for a nominal fee. TippingIt is not conventional to tip in New Zealand and restaurants do not add service charges to their bills. In the case of exceptional service a tip may be warranted, though it is not generally expected.
